Terms of use

Last updated 13 October 2026

Banter is free for hosts and guests; some extras, like games, are unlocked with a licence key. These terms are the rules for using it. Plain English on purpose.

Using Banter

By using Banter you agree to these terms. If you're hosting a room, you're responsible for what happens in it: the people you let in and what they share. You need to be old enough to agree to these terms where you live.

Acceptable use

Don't use Banter for:

  • anything illegal, including sharing illegal content
  • harassment, threats or targeting anyone
  • spam or advertising that the room didn't ask for
  • anything that breaks the law where you or your guests are

Some game packs are 18+ and spicy. Only start those if everyone playing is old enough.

Content in private rooms isn't moderated by Banter

Banter doesn't read, review or moderate what people share in private rooms (Banter rooms, below, are different). What happens in your room is between you and the people in it. For online rooms, Banter can end a room that breaks these rules.

Banter rooms

Banter rooms are public rooms that anyone aged 13 or over can join. They are not end-to-end encrypted, and unlike other rooms Banter does read and moderate them. The rules there are: be kind, no spam, no hate and nothing sexual. Reports are reviewed by Banter, and messages are deleted when the room ends.

Banter may remove any message, voice note or photo, mute you, remove you from a room and ban your phone, with or without warning. Messages with banned words are blocked, links aren't allowed in your first 10 minutes in a room, and you can't pretend to be staff (names like Banter, admin, moderator and staff are reserved). Photos are blurred until tapped, and a single report hides one. To report something, use Report in the room, or email dahcrowntechnologies@gmail.com.

Your content stays yours

Anything you send in a room (messages, photos, videos, PDFs) stays yours. You're letting the other people in the room see it, for as long as the room lasts. When the room ends, it's deleted from the phones.

The service "as is"

Banter is provided as is. We keep it running and we fix bugs, but we can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free, and we're not responsible for losses caused by outages, room content or how you use Banter, to the extent the law allows. We can change or stop parts of Banter as it grows.

Ending rooms and access

Rooms end when the host ends them, after 24 hours at the latest, or if the room breaks these rules. Banter rooms end when their time is up (24 hours, 3 days or 7 days, which Banter staff can extend) or when Banter ends them. We can also end access to Banter for anyone who keeps breaking the rules.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Nigeria.

Written in plain English on purpose. It should still be reviewed by a lawyer before Banter goes on the app stores.
