Child safety standards

Last updated 2 November 2026

Banter has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sextortion and any sexualisation of minors. This page sets out our standards and what we do about it. It applies to every part of Banter: private rooms, online rooms and public Banter rooms.

What isn't allowed

  • sharing, asking for or linking to sexual images or videos of anyone under 18
  • sexual talk with, or about, a minor
  • grooming: building trust with a minor to exploit them, including moving them to another app
  • threatening or pressuring anyone, of any age, to send sexual images
  • anything else that sexualises, exploits or endangers children

Banter rooms (our public rooms) are for people aged 13 and over, and sexual content of any kind isn't allowed in them.

How to report it

In a Banter room, press and hold the message or photo and tap Report. A reported photo is hidden straight away while we review it. For anything else, including private rooms, email dahcrowntechnologies@gmail.com with what happened and, if you can, the room name and time.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police first.

What we do

  • Messages in Banter rooms are checked against word lists as they're sent. Sexual content is held back from the room until a moderator reviews it, and our staff review reports and flagged messages.
  • When we find CSAE we remove the content, ban the phone it came from and end the room if needed.
  • We report child sexual abuse material and exploitation to the relevant authorities, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement in the country concerned, and we keep what the law requires us to keep for them.
  • We cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement investigating child safety.

Private rooms are end-to-end encrypted, so Banter can't see what's shared in them. We still act on reports about them: we can end an online room and ban the phones involved.

The law

Banter complies with child safety laws where it operates, including Nigeria's Child Rights Act and Cybercrimes Act, and the laws of every country where the app is available.
